ECSECC has published its Eastern Cape Labour Market report for the first quarter of 2023.
Here are the highlights of the report:
- The Eastern Cape unemployment rate declined by 2.1 percentage points to 40.0%.
- The number of employed people increased by 3.0%.
- Employment decreased significantly in the private households’ sector by 19.5% and increased by 5.1% in the formal sector (non-agricultural).
- The Eastern Cape youth unemployment rate (aged 15 - 34 years) declined to 51.4%.
- Within the not economically active persons in the province, 56.6% have secondary not completed.
- The female unemployment rate was higher (40.3%) than that of males, which was recorded at 39.6%.
