The Eastern Cape Oceans Economy Symposium was hosted by the Eastern Cape Provincial Government in East London on 28 October 2025, to promote the province’s blue economy.
The symposium featured the unveiling of a new study on the Eastern Cape’s Oceans Economy, discussed strategies for sustainable growth, and highlighted opportunities in areas like green hydrogen and maritime industrialisation.
ECSECC hosted a Stakeholder Reflection Session to commemorate its 30th anniversary. Founding CEO Mr. Mcebisi Jonas delivered a keynote address, joined by leaders from government, business, civil society and current and past ECSECC staff members. The session honoured ECSECC's legacy, reflected on the present, and envisioned the future of inclusive development in the Eastern Cape.
ECSECC commemorated its 30th anniversary with a Thought Leadership Public Dialogue in partnership with the Daily Dispatch newspaper. The commemoration gathered leading experts and stakeholders to reflect on ECSECC’s transformative contributions to socio economic development in the Eastern Cape over the past three decades.

ECSECC and Maritime Business Chamber Business Breakfast
A high-level stakeholder business breakfast, co-hosted by ECSECC and the Maritime Business Chamber on 12 June in Gqeberha, gathered key industry players to explore ways to boost growth in Nelson Mandela Bay through enhanced port efficiency. The event featured a keynote by Transnet Group CEO Adv. Michelle Phillips, who provided a frank and insightful overview of the challenges and opportunities within South Africa’s logistics and port infrastructure.
The Higher Education Student Funding Summit, was hosted by ECSECC under the theme “Ensuring Equitable Access to Higher Education Funding in the Eastern Cape.” It brought together a diverse group of key stakeholders dedicated to addressing the challenges facing students pursuing higher education in the province.
Eastern Cape Provincial Data Centre Working Group Workshop
The Provincial Data Centre Working Group has been established to oversee and coordinate the strategic implementation of the Eastern Cape Provincial Data Centre, which functions as a central hub for the storage, processing, and management of provincial data.
